Born in Vancouver, BC, Crosby enlisted in his hometown on September 12, 1940. He was a geologist prior. He received his commission in December 1942. He was hit by flak, abandoned his aircraft (Typhoon Mk 1B JP446) and evaded capture. Crosby was mentioned in despatches and earned the DFC April 3, 1945 with effect from March 23, 1945.
(439 sqn) was an NCO pilot for a while climbing all the ranks from Sgt – F/Sgt – WO2 – WO1 prior to receiving a commission. His NCO S/N was R/58711
